Jon Stewart regresó para conducir la 80 Ceremonia de los Premios Oscar, en la que No Country for Old Men lideró la cantidad de premios, al obtener estatuillas a la Mejor Película, Mejor Director, Mejor Guion Adaptado y para el Mejor Actor de Reparto.

La segunda película más ganadora de la noche fue la sorprendente The Bourne Ultimatum con tres estatuillas a los premios tecnicos, de Mejor Edición, Mejor Mezcla de Sonido y Mejor Edición de Sonido.

Como todos esperábamos, el premio al mejor actor fue para Daniel Day-Lewis por su excelente trabajo en There Will Be Blood, mientras que el premio para la mejor actriz fue para Marion Cotillard por su interpretación de Edith Piaff en La Vie en Rose.

Un triunfo sorpresivo fue el de Tilda Swinton como mejor actriz de reparto por su trabajo en Michael Clayton, mientras que Diablo Cody obtuvo el premio al mejor guión original por la comedia Juno.

Como dato interesante, los cuatro premios de actuación fueron para artistas europeos, comenzado con Daniel Day-Lewis (Gran Bretaña), Javier Bardem (España), Marion Cotillard (Francia) y Tilda Swinton (Gran Bretaña).
